Takeup was originally designed Henk Kowalski from Germany for a Greener Gadgets competition which has an ultimate prize of $5000 dollars. The theory behind the design is this: all the tons and tons of old computer hardware that is thrown out is becoming a burden on our mother earth. However, the Takeup uses a textile and environmentally friendly material for the majority of the case. The backbone of the case is made from an aluminum frame which by concept is adjustable.
The exterior cloth is swappable which means you can change the look of your case whenever you want! But as some are pointing out, the case isn’t all about the green effect. It provides much more than just an eco-friendly design. PC performance enthusiasts will be intrigued on our take of the Takeup case.
Imagine a computer with no fan vents, a sleek and elegant design with nothing to break up the smooth look of a highly breathable fabric. The benefits of using a case that in actuality is really just one big vent are pretty huge. The cloth exterior will allow for a much higher amount of airflow and also eliminate dust from the inside, and its all machine washable!
This translucent style case could also allow for some cool lighting effects. Adding a plastic sheet style window to the side will still allow for a windowed case and all the benefits of having one. Another benefit is the fact that it would be much more lightweight. Although we feel that it wouldn’t be so portable anyway due to lack of structural integrity, it could still be beneficial should you take the risk of transporting it.
I know that if Henk Kowalski doesn’t make an obtainable version by his own design, I’ll have to rig one up of my own!
